The University of Illinois Board of Trustees today approved the purchase of a three-story office building at 901 W. University Ave., Urbana. The facility will help address growing space needs of the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s Carle Illinois College of Medicine and other campus units.
The nearly 32,000-square-foot structure will be purchased on the university’s behalf by the University of Illinois Foundation for approximately $3.6 million.
The Urbana-Champaign university had leased office space in the building from 2009 to 2024. As part of the acquisition, the university will assume two existing tenant leases — including one with Einstein Bros. Bagels — and gain ownership of the adjacent parking lot.
Appointments
The board also approved the appointments of Aimee Susan Heeter as Urbana’s vice chancellor for finance and Jill Wilberg as vice chancellor for finance and administration at the University of Illinois Springfield.
Currently the vice provost for finance and administration at Indiana University, Heeter will begin in the new role Aug. 1. The job retitles the former position of associate chancellor and vice provost for budget and resource planning.
Wilberg has served in a designate capacity since June 16 and most recently was chief operations officer at Illinois State University Foundation. She also spent 16 years in senior level treasury roles at the University of Illinois System.
“As universities continue to navigate shifting financial landscapes, there is no more critical time to strengthen our fiscal leadership across the system,” University of Illinois System Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Paul Ellinger said. “Aimee Heeter and Jill Wilberg bring valuable experience and insight to their new roles, and I look forward to working closely with both of them. We’re excited to welcome them to the University of Illinois System’s finance leadership team.”
