A message from President Tim Killeen:
The vaccines that have been developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic are among our best tools to curb the spread of the virus and a critical piece of our return to campus life this fall.
I appreciate that so many of you are fully vaccinated, taking this vital step to protect yourself as well as those around you – our students, colleagues, families and communities.
I understand, though, that some of you have questions about the vaccines, their effectiveness, the rare side effects that some have experienced and other factors.
Thanks to Dr. Susan Bleasdale, we now offer you the opportunity to find answers to some of those questions in a video Q&A.
Dr. Bleasdale is the chief quality officer for the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System. She is an infectious disease specialist, an associate professor of clinical medicine in the College of Medicine at the University of Illinois Chicago and a leader in her field.
The video features questions from our students from across the U of I System and is well worth your time. You will find answers to many questions you may have, such as:
I hope you will join me and take a look.
If you have further questions after you watch, I encourage you to contact your doctor or the healthcare professionals at your university. You can find information for Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield.
Through the use of the vaccines available to us as well as common-sense measures, such as wearing face coverings indoors, we will continue to make strides against the virus and protect ourselves and those around us.
Sincerely,
Tim
