    A request approved today by the University of Illinois Board of Trustees seeks an increase in state general funds appropriations of $82.7 million. The increase would support four goals: enhancing student success; recruitment and retention of faculty members and staff; addressing inflation and other cost increases; and technological infrastructure needs.

    Bhargavee Gnanasambandam wins Falling Walls Lab Illinois

    Gnanasambandam earned the top prize with her presentation “Breaking the wall of gynecological cancers,” in which she discussed a new way to detect human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer with a simple test that provides results within 15 minutes. She also won an all-expenses-paid trip to Berlin, to compete at the global Falling Walls Lab finale on Nov. 7.

    The Illinois Innovation Network (IIN) on Thursday awarded nearly $240,000 in seed grants to eight research teams focused on projects that include using renewable technologies to design equitable STEM education programs, making construction materials from wastes and industrial byproducts, developing a game-like energy career exploration platform, and creating high-performance computing simulation tools for additive manufacturing.
