The University of Illinois System’s Urbana-Champaign, Chicago and Springfield universities again ranked high among public institutions and universities nationwide in the 2023-24 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings released today.
University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) climbed a spot to 12th among public national universities and jumped to 35th from 41st among national universities. The Grainger College of Engineering ranked fifth, up from seventh, among national universities for undergraduate engineering programs and ranked among the top 10 in all 11 categories. Gies College of Business ranked No. 2 in accounting and claimed seven rankings among the top 20 in the country.
“It is good to see some of these companies making adjustments to their rankings to give more weight to factors that speak to a university’s efforts in areas around educational access, affordability and achievement,” UIUC Chancellor Robert Jones said. “But the ranking that always matters most to us is the one our students make when they selected the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign as their top choice for their college education.”
University of Illinois Chicago
University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) tied at 40th among public national universities and tied for 82nd among the top 100 national universities overall. The rankings reflect advances of two and 15 spots respectively over UIC’s previous rank.
“UIC’s momentum and recognition are driven by the engaged scholarship and education that takes place at Chicago’s only public research university,” UIC Chancellor Marie Lynn Miranda said. “UIC takes pride in providing the broadest possible access to the highest levels of educational, research, and clinical excellence.”
The university is 16th among the nation’s top performers in social mobility.
University of Illinois Springfield
The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) claimed the top public regional university in Illinois spot for a fifth consecutive year in U.S. News & World Report rankings. UIS was also ranked the sixth-best public regional university in the Midwest regional category.
