As the tragic loss of life continues to increase in Turkey and Syria following recent catastrophic earthquakes, we express our heartfelt sorrow for those impacted by the devastation.
The initial earthquake was among the strongest and deadliest in decades, and significant quakes have continued. The death toll has topped 46,000 and continues to rise, and the destruction of homes, businesses, roads and other infrastructure will make recovery both long and difficult.
The scale of this humanitarian disaster is staggering, and our hearts go out to all who are struggling with these losses.
Our universities have been in contact with their students, faculty, and staff from the region since the first temblor on Feb. 6, providing information about counseling and other available sources of support.
This support will continue to be available in the weeks ahead, and we encourage anyone who has need to reach out for assistance.
